Checked against the sources listed below on October 17, 2026.
Boat tour prices on the web are a mess. Many blog posts still show fares from several years ago under a fresh-looking date, and ticket resellers show their own numbers. This page lists the figures the two operators and the Canadian tourism agencies publish for 2026, shows the arithmetic, and says plainly where the sources disagree. For the wider picture, see our Niagara Falls boat tours guide.
The 2026 published fares side by side
All figures below are published fares checked on October 17, 2026. Neither operator is the other's reseller, and neither accepts the other's tickets. They run on opposite sides of an international border.
| Maid of the Mist (US side) | Niagara City Cruises (Canadian side) | |
|---|---|---|
| Currency | US dollars | Canadian dollars |
| Adult | US$30.25 | from C$47.95 (age 13 and over) |
| Child | US$19.75 (ages 6 to 12) | C$32.95 per Niagara Parks, or C$27.95 per Niagara Falls Tourism (ages 3 to 12) |
| Youngest riders free | 5 and under, with a paying adult | 2 and under priced free by Niagara Parks, but the operator says every rider including infants needs a ticket |
| Tax | No tax statement found on the pages we read | Fares exclude 13% HST |
| Senior or student fare | None listed | None (the operator says there are no student or senior discounts) |
| Ride length | 20 minutes | 20 minutes (the evening fireworks cruise is about 40 minutes) |
| Ticket model | Voucher, first-come boarding, no time slot | Timed slot |
| Included in the fare | Free poncho; the elevator to the landing; the observation deck | Free recyclable poncho; onboard commentary |
Sources: Maid of the Mist schedule and pricing page and FAQ; Niagara Parks and Niagara Falls Tourism listings for Niagara City Cruises; the operator's own ticket page for the "starting at" fare and the infant ticket rule. Links are in the sources list below.
How the age bands differ
The two boats draw their lines in different places, and that changes what a family pays.
- Maid of the Mist: ages 6 to 12 pay US$19.75; 5 and under are free. A six-year-old pays the child fare.
- Niagara City Cruises: ages 3 to 12 pay the child fare; a three-year-old pays on the Canadian boat but would ride free on the American one.
- Adults are 13 and over on the Canadian side. The Maid of the Mist pages we read do not name an adult start age, only the child band of 6 to 12.
- On the Canadian side Niagara Parks prices 2 and under as free, yet the operator's ticket page says all riders, infants included, need a ticket. Ask the operator how a free infant ticket is issued before you travel with a baby.
The Canadian child fare: C$32.95 or C$27.95?
This is the one contradiction on the Canadian side that affects real money. Two public listings disagree for the same 3 to 12 age band:
| Source | Child fare (3 to 12) | Adult fare | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Niagara Parks listing | C$32.95 | C$47.95 | States that fares exclude 13% HST |
| Niagara Falls Tourism listing | C$27.95 | Not captured here | Same age band; no date shown on the listing |
| Operator's ticket page | Not shown | Starting at C$47.95 | Booking calendar did not render for our tools |
| Our Toronto day tour (cruise add-on) | C$27.95 | C$47.95 | Day-tour add-on price; not an independent confirmation |
What we can say with confidence: the adult figure of C$47.95 agrees across every source we read. The child figure does not. One possible explanation is that C$27.95 is a leftover from the 2025 season, because a 2025 operator-affiliated season-launch post lists a child fare of C$27.95 for 2025. That is a plausible reading, not a confirmed one, and we have not seen either agency say so.
Planning rule: budget with the higher figure, C$32.95, and treat any lower price at checkout as a pleasant surprise. The difference is C$32.95 minus C$27.95, which is C$5.00 per child before tax and C$5.65 with HST. For a family with two children that is C$11.30 including tax.
HST arithmetic: what you actually pay in Canada
Ontario's harmonized sales tax is 13%. Niagara Parks lists the cruise fares before tax, so your total is the fare multiplied by 1.13, rounded to the cent. Here is the working for each fare.
| Fare | Before tax | HST at 13% | Total with HST |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult (13+) | C$47.95 | C$6.23 | C$54.18 |
| Child at the Niagara Parks figure | C$32.95 | C$4.28 | C$37.23 |
| Child at the Niagara Falls Tourism figure | C$27.95 | C$3.63 | C$31.58 |
Worked example for the adult fare: 47.95 x 0.13 = 6.2335, which rounds to 6.23. Add it to 47.95 and you get 54.18. We have not been able to run the operator's checkout, so the final line there is the authority. If the checkout shows a different total, believe the checkout and tell us through the contact page.
The same rule applies to the add-on prices on a Toronto day tour: our Toronto day tour lists the cruise add-on at C$47.95 for adults, and its pages do not say whether tax is included, so ask when you book.
An illustrative conversion between the two boats
With that ratio, here is roughly how the two operators compare when you divide the Canadian fares by 1.417, and multiply the American fares by it.
| Item | Canadian price | Illustrative US dollars | Maid of the Mist in illustrative Canadian dollars |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult before tax | C$47.95 | US$33.84 | US$30.25 is about C$42.86 |
| Adult with HST | C$54.18 | US$38.24 | Not applicable |
| Child before tax (higher figure) | C$32.95 | US$23.25 | US$19.75 is about C$27.99 |
| Child before tax (lower figure) | C$27.95 | US$19.72 | Same as above |
The honest takeaway: on this illustrative ratio the Canadian adult fare is about US$3.60 above the American one before tax (33.84 minus 30.25) and about US$8 above it after HST (38.24 minus 30.25). For children the gap is about US$3.50 before tax and US$6.50 after tax at the higher Canadian child fare. Exchange rates move, so that gap can narrow or widen. The Canadian side also offers things the American side does not, such as a night and fireworks cruise, which is a different product, not a like-for-like price comparison. Our Maid of the Mist vs Niagara City Cruises comparison weighs that properly.
What a family of four pays
Two adults and two children aged 8 and 10, tickets only, no parking, no extras:
| Boat | Working | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Maid of the Mist | 2 x US$30.25 + 2 x US$19.75 = 60.50 + 39.50 | US$100.00 |
| Niagara City Cruises (child at C$32.95) | 2 x 47.95 + 2 x 32.95 = 95.90 + 65.90 = 161.80; HST 21.03 | C$182.83 |
| Niagara City Cruises (child at C$27.95) | 2 x 47.95 + 2 x 27.95 = 95.90 + 55.90 = 151.80; HST 19.73 | C$171.53 |
The family total on the American boat is a round US$100.00 because the child and adult fares add up that way. Our Niagara Falls trip cost calculator adds parking, the border toll, meals and attractions so you can see an all-in number for your own party and route.
Price per minute on the water
Both rides are about 20 minutes. Dividing the adult fare by 20 gives a rough price per minute: about US$1.51 for Maid of the Mist, and about C$2.40 before tax (C$2.71 after HST) for Niagara City Cruises. This is a crude measure. It ignores waiting, boarding, the elevator or funicular, the observation deck, and the night cruise. We include it only because readers ask for it.
Group rates
Maid of the Mist publishes group and school rates on the New York State Parks page. For 2026 the group adult fare is US$27.25, educational grades 1 to 8 are US$18.00, and grades 9 to 12 are US$19.75. The page adds that children 5 and under ride free with one adult per four children, that groups get one free ticket per 20 adults, and that school groups get one free chaperone per 15 students. It also lists a net adult rate of US$24.25 for agents and operators only, which is not a public fare. The education rates are tied to date windows on that page, so confirm the dates with the operator.
Niagara City Cruises says groups of 20 or more should contact the operator, and publishes no group price. An older company blog quoted a student rate of C$12.25 plus tax for September to June, but it is dated and may be obsolete, so do not plan around it.
Group arithmetic: the group adult fare is US$3.00 below the public US$30.25 (30.25 minus 27.25), which is about 9.9%.
How to read reseller prices
Online sellers show prices in several forms. Reading them correctly saves money.
- Check the product name. A listing that says 'Niagara Falls boat tour' may be a bundle with a bus ride, a meal or another attraction, not the boat alone.
- Check the currency. A listing in US dollars for the Canadian boat has been converted at the seller's rate, and it may or may not include tax.
- Compare with the operator's fare. Adult fares to beat are US$30.25 for Maid of the Mist and C$47.95 before tax for Niagara City Cruises.
- 'From' prices are a floor, not a quote. The final price depends on the date, the add-ons and the age mix.
- Struck-through 'was' prices are marketing. A listing that shows a high crossed-out price beside a lower one does not tell you the higher price was ever charged.
- Anecdotal evidence of mark-ups exists. Reviewers of one third-party seller describe paying around US$70 online for a ticket they say cost about US$47 at the window. These are individual accounts we cannot verify, so they show what can happen, not how often.
- Check what happens if you cannot go. Many reseller terms differ from the operator's, and the operator may not recognise a reseller's booking. Our tickets guide covers how to verify a seller.
Day-tour bundles are a legitimate way to pay more for more. One Toronto operator cited in our research prices day tours from C$99 to C$303 per person with a boat bundle around C$159 and HST extra, and our Toronto day tour lists a day tour at C$89.99 per adult with the cruise as an optional C$47.95 add-on, so about C$137.94 before tax for an adult who adds the boat. What you are paying for there is the coach, the guide and the day, not a cheaper boat. See the day tour with boat ride page for what the add-on involves.
The Canadian fare history we can source
Only one earlier Canadian price point is sourced in our research. A 2025 season-launch post on Clifton Hill's site, an attractions company affiliated with the area, listed the 2025 Voyage to the Falls adult fare as from C$42.95 and the child fare for ages 3 to 12 as C$27.95.
Against that, the 2026 adult figure of C$47.95 is C$5.00 higher, or about 11.6% (5.00 divided by 42.95). We treat this as history, not as a trend, for two reasons: it is one year, and it comes from a secondary source. Older pages still online show C$33.50 and C$23.50, which Niagara Parks' current listing supersedes. We do not know the year of those older figures.
For Maid of the Mist, a 2025 blog comparison reproduced the same US$30.25 adult fare that the operator now lists for 2026. We have not seen an official 2025 price list, so we cannot say the fare was unchanged. Many blogs still show fares from 2013 to 2019, so any figure well under US$30 is probably stale.
What 2027 will bring
Unknown. Neither operator has published a 2027 fare, a 2027 opening date or a closing date for the Canadian season. Maid of the Mist closes for 2026 on November 8, and its opening depends on Lake Erie ice, as the 2026 Canadian opening of May 1 showed. If you are reading this after the 2026 season, do not use these numbers as 2027 fares. We will add 2027 prices to the table and the changelog the day they are published.

What the sources do not say
- Whether the operator's checkout price for the Canadian child ticket is C$32.95 or C$27.95.
- Whether Niagara City Cruises charges more at the gate than online. A walk-up versus online difference was not found.
- Whether Maid of the Mist adds sales tax at checkout, and which payment cards it takes online.
- Any 2027 price, date or season length for either boat.
- Whether either operator varies prices by date. Niagara City Cruises uses 'starting at' wording; Maid of the Mist shows a single fare.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Niagara Falls boat tour cost in 2026?
On the US side, Maid of the Mist charges US$30.25 for adults and US$19.75 for ages 6 to 12, and children 5 and under ride free. On the Canadian side, Niagara City Cruises advertises tickets starting at C$47.95 for adults, plus 13% HST. The Canadian child fare is reported as either C$32.95 or C$27.95, depending on the source.
Is the Niagara City Cruises price before or after tax?
Niagara Parks lists the Canadian fares before the 13% HST. On a C$47.95 adult ticket, HST is C$6.23, so the total is about C$54.18. The operator's own ticket page shows only a starting price, so check the final line at checkout before you pay.
What does a child ticket cost on the Canadian boat?
It depends on the source. Niagara Parks lists C$32.95 for ages 3 to 12, while Niagara Falls Tourism lists C$27.95. The operator's own page shows only the adult starting price. Until the operator publishes a child fare, treat C$32.95 as the planning figure and expect to confirm at checkout.
Is Maid of the Mist cheaper than Niagara City Cruises?
On posted numbers, yes. Using the Rainbow Bridge toll ratio of 1.417 as an illustration only, US$30.25 is roughly C$42.86, against C$47.95 before tax. That is not a live exchange rate, so convert with your own bank rate on the day you pay.
Do the boats charge different prices on weekends or in summer?
Neither operator's pages we read show a weekend or seasonal surcharge for the day boats. Niagara City Cruises uses the wording 'starting at', which leaves room for variation by product or date. Maid of the Mist publishes one adult and one child fare for the 2026 season.
Are there group rates for the boat tours?
Maid of the Mist lists a 2026 group adult fare of US$27.25 and school rates of US$18.00 (grades 1 to 8) and US$19.75 (grades 9 to 12), with conditions. Niagara City Cruises says groups of 20 or more should contact the operator and does not publish a group fare.
Will boat tour prices go up in 2027?
Nobody has published 2027 fares yet. Maid of the Mist and Niagara City Cruises have not announced 2027 prices or dates, so any figure quoted for next year is a guess. This page will be updated when the operators publish.
Why do I see higher prices on other websites?
Resellers add margin, bundle extras, or show an out-of-date fare. Visitor reviews of one third-party seller describe paying around US$70 online for a ticket that cost about US$47 at the window, but those are individual anecdotes. Compare any listing against the operator's own fare before you buy.
