Winter, weather and what to bring

QuestionShort answer
Does it run in winter?Yes, daily. The boat add-on is seasonal. See the winter day tour page.

Children, seniors and accessibility

The tour is a long day, so think about the youngest and the slowest member of your group. Tell us in your request about anyone who uses a mobility device or a stroller, and we confirm what is possible before you pay.

QuestionShort answer
ChildrenChild price C$79.99. The child age band is not published; ask us. Niagara Takes Flight needs a minimum height of 100 cm. See Niagara Falls with kids.
SeniorsSenior price C$79.99. The age threshold is not published; ask us.
Wheelchair or scooterTell us in the request. Coach access details are not published. Niagara Parks says WEGO buses are fully accessible and Journey Behind the Falls is partially accessible (lower deck by stairs only). See accessibility.
StrollersAsk us. Strollers are not permitted inside Journey Behind the Falls.
Group size10 to 30 passengers. No minimum-passenger rule is published.

Passports, ID and the border

The route from Toronto stays in Canada, so it has no border crossing. The question matters for visitors who plan to add the US side on their own.

QuestionShort answer
Do I need a passport for the tour? There is no border crossing on the route. Visitors from abroad already needed their travel documents to enter Canada (CBSA calls a passport the most reliable document, and some visitors also need a visa or eTA). Carry the ID you travelled with.
Does the tour go to the US side? No. It is entirely on the Canadian side.
I want the US side tooPlan it separately and check documents first. See the border and passport guide.

Private tours and groups

If the shared schedule does not fit, a private tour is arranged by quote. There is no listed price, because the quote depends on date, group size, vehicle, duration and stops.

  • Ask for a private tour if you want a different start time, a slower pace, an evening finish or a larger group.
  • Include date, group size, children's ages, mobility needs, pickup and drop-off points and must-see stops in your request.
  • We reply by email with a proposal and price. No payment is taken on the form.

Day tour compared with going on your own

Can I cancel the day tour?

Yes. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the tour. If you added the boat ride, ask us how it is covered, because Niagara City Cruises' own tickets are non-refundable within 48 hours of sailing.

Where does the Toronto to Niagara Falls tour pick up?

It picks up in downtown Toronto at 8:30 am. We confirm your exact pickup point when we confirm your booking. We have not published a list of pickup points here, so ask in your request if you need a specific hotel or station area.

What time does the tour start and finish?

Pickup is at 8:30 am in downtown Toronto and drop-off is at about 5:30 pm, traffic permitting. Winter traffic, summer weekend traffic and weather can all move the return time.

How long is the day tour?

From the 8:30 am pickup to the listed 5:30 pm drop-off, the schedule runs about nine hours. The coach drive each way is the largest block; the falls are about 131 km from Union Station, about 1 h 41 m free-flow by road.

How much time do we get at Niagara Falls?

About 2.5 hours in the schedule, from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. It starts with about an hour at Table Rock for the view of the Horseshoe Falls, then free time at Clifton Hill for lunch, exploring or an add-on such as the boat ride.

Is lunch included?

No. Lunch is not part of the itinerary, so eat during your free time at the falls. The maple syrup tasting at Maple Leaf Place is a tasting, not a meal. Tell us about dietary needs in your request and we reply with what we can confirm.

What stops are on the itinerary?

Listed stops are Whirlpool Rapids and the Floral Clock (10:00 am), Maple Leaf Place (11:00 am), Niagara Falls at Table Rock and Clifton Hill (11:30 am), and Niagara-on-the-Lake (2:00 pm), then departure at 3:45 pm. Queenston Heights is a drive-by view.

Are there photo stops?

Yes. The Whirlpool Rapids and the Floral Clock stops on the Niagara Parkway are photo stops with a stretch break, and the Table Rock viewing area is the main place for pictures of the Horseshoe Falls. Queenston Heights is seen from the coach.

Does the tour visit Niagara-on-the-Lake?

Yes, for about an hour in the afternoon (2:00 pm in the listed itinerary), with time for shops and cafes. Read more in our Niagara-on-the-Lake guide. The coach departs for Toronto at 3:45 pm.

Can I see the falls lit at night or the fireworks on this tour?

No. The coach leaves Niagara at 3:45 pm in the listed itinerary, before the nightly illumination starts in any season (4:30 pm at the earliest) and well before the fireworks (10 pm in the 2026 season). Ask about a private tour if you want an evening.

Is the boat ride included in the day tour?

No. The boat ride is an optional paid add-on that you request when booking. The base tour includes coach transport, a guide, the maple syrup tasting, scenic stops and free time at the falls.

How long is the boat ride?

The Niagara City Cruises Voyage to the Falls is about 20 minutes on the water. We budget about an hour for the add-on, which covers boarding and queuing. A complimentary recyclable poncho comes with the ride, and you may still get wet.

Does the tour include Maid of the Mist?

No. Maid of the Mist sails on the US side, and our tour stays in Canada. The boat add-on is the Niagara City Cruises ride from the Canadian side. Compare the two in our Maid of the Mist versus Niagara City Cruises guide.

Does the boat add-on run in winter?

Not reliably. Maid of the Mist closes for 2026 on Nov 8. Niagara City Cruises has no published closing date and says December sailings depend on weather. We confirm availability for your date. From January to March, plan on no boat.

How many add-ons can I take?

We recommend a maximum of two per person. Your free time at the falls is about 2.5 hours, including the hour at Table Rock, so two add-ons leave little time for lunch. Each add-on uses roughly 45 minutes to an hour.

Does the day tour run in winter?

Yes. It runs daily all year, with a 10 to 30 passenger group. The boat add-on is seasonal, and winter days are short and cold. See our winter day tour page for daylight by month and what is open.

What happens in bad weather?

We have not published a separate weather rule. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the tour, and we confirm weather terms in our reply to your request, before you pay. Check Ontario 511 for road conditions on the morning of travel.

What is the weather like at Niagara Falls?

Environment and Climate Change Canada 1981-2010 normals for the Niagara Falls station give average highs of 27.4 C in July and 0.4 below zero in January, with 47.7 cm of snow in January. These are averages, not forecasts, so check the forecast before you go.

What should I bring on the day tour?

Bring weather-appropriate layers, comfortable walking shoes with a grip, a charged phone, and money for lunch and souvenirs. If you add the boat, bring a waterproof phone pouch. See our what to wear guide for details.

When is the best time of year for a Niagara Falls day tour?

It depends on what you want. The boat add-on is seasonal, so late spring to early fall gives you the most options. Winter offers smaller crowds, short days and cold. July to September is the busiest period per Niagara Falls Tourism.

Is the day tour suitable for children?

Many families take it, but it is a nine-hour day with about 2.5 hours at the falls. A child price of C$79.99 is listed; we have not published the child age band, so ask in your request. Niagara Takes Flight needs a minimum height of 100 cm.

Is there a senior price?

Yes. The listed senior price is C$79.99, the same as the child price. We have not published the senior age threshold, so ask in your request and we confirm it in our reply.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Tell us in your booking request. We confirm what is possible for your group before you pay, because we have not published coach lift or ramp details. A private tour may suit some needs better. Niagara Parks says its WEGO buses are fully accessible.

Can I bring a stroller?

Ask us in your request. We have not published a stroller policy for the coach. Note that strollers are not permitted inside Journey Behind the Falls, according to Niagara Parks.

How big is the tour group?

The listed group size is 10 to 30 passengers. We have not published a minimum-passenger or run-guarantee rule, so ask in your request about your date and we confirm availability in our reply.

Do I need a passport for the day tour?

The tour stays in Canada, so there is no border crossing on the route from Toronto. Visitors to Toronto from abroad already needed the documents to enter Canada, and CBSA calls a passport the most reliable travel document, and some visitors also need a visa or eTA. Carry the ID you travelled with. See our border guide.

Does the tour go to the American side of Niagara Falls?

No. The itinerary is entirely on the Canadian side, including Table Rock, Clifton Hill and Niagara-on-the-Lake. If you want to visit the US side on your own, you need the documents for that crossing; see our border guide.

Can I book a private Niagara Falls tour from Toronto?

Yes, by quote. Send the request with your date, group size, pickup point, children's ages and wish list, and we reply by email with a proposal and price. A private tour can use a different start time, length and route.

Can you take a large group, a family or a corporate outing?

The shared tour carries 10 to 30 passengers. For a larger group, a special occasion or a custom route, ask for a private quote through the form. We reply by email with what we can offer.

How far is Niagara Falls from Toronto, and how long does the drive take?

Union Station is about 131 km (81 miles) from the falls, about 1 h 41 m free-flow by road per our estimate. Allow 2 to 2.5 hours on summer Fridays and Sundays. Add parking time if you drive.

Can I go to Niagara Falls from Toronto by train instead?

Yes. GO Transit's Lakeshore West line serves Niagara Falls GO Station, about 2 h 20 m on the train per GO. Weekend service runs year-round; weekday trips are reported, so check the timetable. Our day tour avoids the train-plus-WEGO planning.

Is the day tour cheaper than doing it yourself?

It depends on your group and what you add. The tour is C$89.99 per adult plus add-ons. Doing it yourself means fuel or train fares, parking and attraction tickets. Use the trip cost calculator to compare your own numbers.

Is the day tour worth it compared with going on your own?

It is worth it if you want no driving or parking, a planned route and a guide. It is less suited to visitors who want more than 2.5 hours at the falls or a fully flexible day, or who want evening lights. Read the honest comparison on our tour page.
